Q1; Ford has always attracted and nurtured capable managers and technicians, but it has failed to do the same for change agents and leaders, So as part of the automaker’s cultural overhaul, Ford is embaring on a sweeping attempt to mass manufacture leaders . It wants to build an army of warrior entrepreneurs – people who have the courage and skill to topple old ideas and who believe in change passionately enough to make it happen. Ford will send about 2500 managers to its Leadership Development Center for one of its four programs- Capstone, Experienced Leader Challenge , Ford Business Associates, and New Business Leader- instilling in them not just the mind set and vocabulary of a revolutionary but also the tools necessary to achieve a revolution. At the same time through the Business Leader Initiative all 100000 salaried employees worldwide will participate in business leadership “cascades”. Intense exercise that combine trickle down communications with substantive team projects

Q2; Anushka , an accounts manger in a multinational company  says as a manager she integrates its employees towards common objectives. As a manager she not only tell people  in the organization as to what they should do and how they should do but also see  that her instructions are implemented in the proper prospective. Other than all this whenever she wants to introduce new system of accounting staff, she explains the purpose , provides the training and motivated with additional rewards so that her employees cooperate with her.

By quoting the lines Identify the importance of one of the function of management highlighted in above case .

Q3; Aarti had been a district sales manager with S company for ten years. She was recognized by her peers and supervisors as a person who managed department in a good way. However everyone realized that Aarti was extremely ambitious and was seeking a higher level management position. When one of her sales representative did good job she would attempt to take the credit. However if a problem arose she thought it was not her fault. When the marketing manager retired Aarti applied for the position. When the search was done the decision was taken to fill the job from outside the company. They felt that she might displease the other managers if she tried to take credit for their work and as a result their performance would suffer.  Due to this Aarti became despondent and her work deteriorated. She became to be late with her sales reports. Although her sales staff continued to be productive. When the new marketing manager took over , one of the first major problems she confronted was how  to get Aarti back on her former performance level.

(a)Identify one of the element of one of the function of management in the above case which Aarti was lacking.

(b) Also identify and explain the features of  other element of same function by using which new manager can have aarti back on her performance level.

Q4; HCL Technologies has formulated a rather innovative approach to management, where employees come before customers. Every employee ranks their boss, their boss’s boss and at least three other company managers on a 1- to -5 scale. Then the results are posted online for everyone to see. This company realizes that satisfied and secure employees can best focus on customer success . HCL has formed new strategic alliances, and is embarking on a rather innovative approach to  shared risk with customers.  The point is that Indian companies aren’t just innovating manufacturing methods, technologies and product design. Management  is creating energized creative teams of employees focused on customer success.

Identify the style of leadership which HCL is using and helping its employees with team work. Explain its merits and limitations.

Q5; Mr. Atul  is general manager in a company . As a manager it makes sure there should be individual autonomy, reward orientation, consideration to employees, encouraging the employees for risk taking are taken care. As  a manager Atul make sure to provide employees opportunity to improve their skill by providing appropriate skill development  programmes . Recently Ananya was awarded a certificate for best performance in sales and arun was rewarded for giving valuable suggestions.

Atul as being a manager is using some kind of incentives to motivate his employees . identify the various types of incentives from the above case by quoting the lines.

Q6; Mr.Varun joined arya  Ltd as Personnel officer . After joining he came to know that maximum workers  working under him are well versed with  tamil but not with any other language and he himself has no knowledge of tamil at all. So he tried to take the help of Amit his P.a. to communicate with his workers and Amit has no complete knowledge of tamil as well as English so mistakes creeped in causing different meanings  and misunderstandings.  One day Varun told Amit that Some of his guests are coming so he has to take care of them  now here he meant to take care of their transport, food , accommodation  of the guest until he leaves the place. But the subordinate interpreted the guest should be taken to hotel with care only . So ultimately guest suffered .

In the above case Varun is facing two barrier of communication . Identify them with reason.

Q7;Aruna joined in Afsa Ltd as Personnel manager, she observed lots of chaos and misunderstandings in the organization she found that there is highly centralized pattern , people are not be encouraged to have free communication . If they want to communicate then they have to follow prescribed channel  which results in delays. Other than this there are number of managerial levels , communication gets delayed and distorted as number of filtering points are more.  So she found that something is wrong with one of the element of one of the function of management .

Identify the element of that function . Alo identify the negative points of that element which are causing above problems .

Justify your answer by quoting the lines from above case.

What system do you think the Manager should adopt to improve communication?
